Jon Poulson
a classically trained professional artist who loves what he does, and it shows.
Jon has made a career of art since 1994.
Jon Founded Aloha Tattoos back in 2010. With little more than a vision and a dream. It’s come so far since then.
Jon earned his reputation as an award-winning tattoo artist who exceeds his client’s expectations with each tattoo project he takes on.
For the past two decades, Jon has consistently come through for his clients on each tattoo project. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always worth it for this top artist.
“I see each tattoo as a collaboration between two people.” “It’s about what can be created together with a spark of imagination, time, and space. An experience to last a lifetime with a beautiful unique tattoo produced.”
-Jon Poulson
Jon has progressed through many artistic style changes since becoming a professional tattoo artist two decades ago. Jon has been a part of the changing landscape of the tattoo craft throughout the years, mastering diverse styles with a diverse clientele. Traveling the world, working in some of the top tattoo shops in major destination cities across the globe, including the world-famous Vince Neil Ink Center Strip, Las Vegas, NV (working for the lead singer of Motley Crüe)
This experience allowed Jon to remain quite flexible in his approach to tattooing, adapting easily to the changing styles that have become popular as tattooing has evolved and exploded in popularity in recent years. Because of this, Jon doesn't focus on one particular style; instead, he specializes in numerous diverse styles. Including but not limited to:
Ancient Marks, Primitive Symbols, and Primitive Designs
Polynesian Tribal - Custom Freehand

No tattoo is too small or too big; you name it, Jon has probably done it or something similar to it. Jon is always excited to try something new to expand his artistic experiences.
Jon is friendly and seriously despises that "holier-than-thou" and the "Better Than You or That Tattoo" or the “Criminal/Thug/Hustler mentality” attitude that is prolific at many shops in town. You won't find that attitude here; Jon is caring and compassionate with regard to each client's individual needs and expectations while being the guide that ensures the best possible tattoo for each client -- and it shows.
Jon is available most days and would love to work with you on your next tattoo. Jon is generally the most in-demand artist at Aloha Tattoos in Salt Lake City. As long as there is an open spot in his schedule and he feels the tattoo the two of you are creating for you is a good fit, he is available for your tattoo.
If it’s not a great fit, Jon is happy to get you with the right artist for your particular tattoo.

We have a fun, knowledgeable team of unique artists who interact well and truly work as a team to make your experience a memorable one from start to finish. At Aloha Tattoos, we focus on building relationships with our Clients.
Clean
Most tattoo shops re-use much of their equipment with the use of an autoclave or other on-site sterilization -- Not us! We go far beyond the industry standard sanitary methods and instead insist on the best. We use single-use, disposable supplies to exceed health department standards. Not many shops can say that.
While an in-house autoclave is the minimum standard for health department approval, there is still room for error if done improperly and not tested monthly. At Aloha, we go a step further, we are completely disposable! Meaning that the equipment we use to perform each tattoo is used only once! EVER! Then it is sent off in bio-hazard containers to be destroyed; never to be used again. We feel this is the best way to ensure our customers a completely sanitary tattoo. Yes, it is quite a bit more expensive to do this, but you and your tattoo are worth it to us. We truly care about your health and safety when it comes to each tattoo.
Professional
Each artist at Aloha Tattoos has gone through formal training and adheres to the strict Aloha Tattoos code of conduct at all times when at the shop. We strive to make each tattoo experience individualized and informative.
We strive to make your experience memorable, but also informative. We are dedicated to telling you the negatives as well as the positives about getting tattooed. We won't influence your decision, but we also won’t let you make a poor decision either. We aren't that shop that will just allow you to get whatever you want as long as you have the cash. We want you to be informed about your choice of placement and want to ensure that you know the consequences of certain tattoos, we will offer sound advice and alternative placement for potential problem areas. We're not here to judge, we just want you to make the right choice with all of the available information from decades of experience.
Our open and honest policy has helped hundreds of people steer clear of potential problem tattoos and instead turn them into amazing pieces that each client can enjoy for a lifetime without any problems that sometimes arise when a tattoo is improperly placed, or a meaning that is unknown comes out when showing it off.
We know our stuff, and we'll share our experience with you. We will ensure that you make the best decisions possible so that the outcome is something that you will absolutely love for the rest of your life.
We offer privacy for anyone who feels uncomfortable. We don't want you to feel like anyone you don't approve of is looking at you while you are getting your tattoo. Even if it's someone that came with you, Just say the word, and they won’t be allowed to watch.
It was missing from the Salt Lake Valley for too long... Aloha Tattoos; The spirit of ALOHA. A tattoo shop that cares about what you want from your tattoo experience and truly cares about your health and safety.

Or, If you prefer, you can Call or text (801) 702-8438 with questions.
All appointments do require a deposit, or a Credit/Debit card on file to hold the appointment Day and Time. Alternatively, you can come down to the shop and leave a cash deposit to book an appointment.
Please note: while we do our best to accommodate your needs; without a deposit and a confirmation, you do not actually have an appointment.
When requesting an appointment, keep in mind that if modifications to artwork is involved, or if you are commissioning custom art, it will take additional time to draw/design. The time you schedule is all the time that we have set aside for that tattoo appointment, and we often have another appointment scheduled directly after yours. If you have questions, or detailed modifications, or require custom artwork creation, it’s best to schedule a consultation ahead of time. Custom-commissioned drawings can take up to two weeks or more depending on our workload, drawing schedule, and/or tattoo schedule. Good art takes time to prepare for; rushed artwork often leads to rushed results. This is going to be there forever, and it's worth taking the proper time to prepare each and every piece of art that’s getting tattooed.
Schedule a Virtual Consultation
A virtual consultation takes 5-20 min. We discuss your tattoo, review images/designs, decide placement/size, explain the process, answer questions, discuss budget/pricing/payment. We schedule a Drawing Review or Book a Tattoo Appointment, or both.
For certain tattoo artists or larger tattoo projects, we do require a consultation to ensure that we can understand your vision and discuss the details of your tattoo idea. We believe that this personalized step is necessary to provide you with the best tattoo experience possible. Each of our talented artists has their own unique approach to consultations, so we encourage you to use our convenient scheduling link, fill out a Tattoo Inquiry Form, or reach out to us directly. Our team is always more than happy to have a conversation with you, discuss your ideas in depth, and work together to create a detailed plan that will result in the best tattoo for you. Whether it's your first tattoo or you're adding to your existing collection, we are dedicated to making your tattoo dreams a reality. So, don't hesitate to get in touch with us today and take the first step on your tattoo journey.
If you are new to tattoos; Not completely sure what you want; Have extensive design changes; or simply have questions, It's often best to schedule a Virtual Consultation before you book an appointment and then leave enough time to properly design your tattoo. Please don't just assume that you know how it all works because you watched a television program or know someone who got tattooed recently. So much has changed in the tattoo industry in the past 5-10 years, it’s better to ask than to just assume. A consultation ahead of time will save us both a lot of time and avoid confusion in the long run. We're here to help you make the best possible decision, but we can't help you if you don't ask.
If you prefer to speak to someone before scheduling anything, simply Call or Text (801) 702-8438 during business hours.
We are always willing to Answer Your Questions about Tattoos, Tattoo Design, and The Process of it all; including artwork creation, sterilization, disposable supplies, healing, and more. Check out Jon's BLOG POSTS for answers to many common questions. Or, if you like, you can pick up the phone and give us a call, send us an email or message, or you can simply stop by the shop during business hours. Either way, we'll generally have the answers to your questions.
Walk-ins
We Gladly Accept Walk-ins for Tattoos when we're available, during business hours,
If you would rather just stop by to discuss your tattoo or prefer not to be tied to a schedule and would like to simply walk in to get your tattoo now. We will do our best to accommodate you as long as we are available, but it is best to call us before dropping by.
Pricing Questions?
Pricing is a question that's on everyone's minds. How much your tattoo will cost depends on a number of factors. You can click the link above to read about how we price tattoos, and why choosing a cheaper hourly rate or lower shop minimum isn't always a good idea.
Choosing an efficient artist that can give you an amazing tattoo in less time is always the way to go. You will end up paying much less when choosing a better artist. Lower per-hour rates often translate into a longer tattoo session. Choose the right artist, regardless of per-hour or minimum price. You'll end up getting far superior results in less time; saving yourself or your loved ones both money and time spent in pain in the long run.
Tattoo Drawings and Designs...
The skilled artists at Aloha Tattoos can create any design you want or can imagine. Whether it's a fully customized design or a simple tweak to an existing image you found, we can bring it to life. From old drawings by your loved ones to unique and intricate creations, we can do it all. Our expertise includes precise lines and geometric patterns as well as vibrant color bursts and everything in between. Providing visual references upfront will help us better understand and replicate your desired design. We're even here to guide you in selecting the ideal tattoo based on your personal preferences.
Please Note; A consultation is generally required to book most appointments over 2 hours and/or appointments that require extensive drawing/design or artwork changes. Getting the design completed is the most important phase of a tattoo, and usually takes the longest. Many drawings actually take 2-5x as long as the actual tattoo will take. Planning your tattoo results in the best tattoo possible. That being said, It is important that we have adequate time to design your particular tattoo.
I Assure you, in the years to come you will not remember that it took a bit of extra time to perfect the tattoo design. You will however be reminded on a daily basis that a bit of extra time wasn't taken and you're stuck with a tattoo that's not perfect for the rest of your life and instead insisted that it be rushed to get it done then and there.
While we can often produce a quick mock-up of your design at no charge during certain consultations, A deposit is required to start ANY actual drawing or design. (The deposit usually ranges from $50-$250, depending on the physical size, the amount of drawing or design time required, and the length and date of the appointment.) Your deposit goes towards the final price of your tattoo as part of the artwork creation and is not an additional fee. This deposit is, however Non-Refundable.
Tattoo drawings, sketches, drafts, or designs are generally non-colored line-work-only renditions of the tattoo to be produced. Coloring and or shading the artwork is generally considered commissioned art, and at your artist’s discretion, will incur a separate fee due to the time involved. In addition, it is impossible to mimic a tattoo digitally, or on paper. The results may be close, but skin is unique to each individual, and results will vary greatly. Tattoos involve trust, but we can only do as good as you allow us to know what you want. Communication on your part is key. We are trying to design something uniquely for you, and we only know as much as you tell us.
Commissioned artwork on larger or multi-session tattoos does require a drawing appointment to complete. A drawing fee for commissioned work is based on the amount of time required to produce the art, and the type of art being commissioned. Generally charged at an hourly rate, similar to tattoo work. Depending on the type of artwork you commission, upon completion, a portion of the drawing fee can occasionally go towards the final price of the tattoo, depending on your written agreement with a specific artist, at that artist’s discretion.
Please keep in mind when planning your tattoo; that we have other clients waiting for their artwork to be prepared at the same time as you. It takes time, up to two weeks and in some cases longer, to properly begin a design for a custom tattoo. The larger or more complex the design, the longer it will take to create your artwork. Please keep this in mind when planning and scheduling.
If you would like a one-of-a-kind custom drawing, illustration, or painting of your tattoo design after your tattoo is completed as a family keepsake or memorial to hang in your home or office, Custom drawings, paintings, and/or reprints on various materials can be produced of your tattoo artwork as an original piece signed by your artist. You can discuss pricing and availability with your artist as well as available mediums. This service is also available as a part of the Rewards Program, using rewards points.
All artwork produced as part of the drawing process is © (Copy-Written and remains the property of) Aloha Tattoo, LLC, Aloha Park City, LLC, and the artist that created/designed it unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. All rights reserved. You may not reproduce or share any artwork or sketches produced unless agreed upon in writing.
